About the John W. Campbell Memorial Award for Best Science Fiction Novel
Year is the award year, when the prize was presented, for novels published the previous year. Finalists come from the Gunn Center's finalists page (archive.org snapshot, April 2021); the live KU pages are gone. 2nd and 3rd places come from the Gunn Center's winners page (archive.org snapshot, June 2021) and are recorded as Finalist with rank 2 or 3; winners have rank 1. Ties: 2009 and 2012 had two winners; 2007, 2013 and 2017 had tied 3rd places; 2016 and 2018 had tied 2nd places. The 2012 Honorable Mention (Osama) is a Finalist with no rank. sfadb.com was used to cross-check every year. The award was last given in 2019; it was not held in 2020-2025 (COVID cancellation, then hiatus while the jury seeks a new host). Repairs: fixed misspellings (The Yiddish Policemen's Union, MacLeod, DiChario), dropped the subtitle from Lock In, and gave the 2015 VanderMeer omnibus as Area X: The Southern Reach Trilogy.
