About the CBCA Book of the Year Awards
CBCA Book of the Year Awards 2006-2025, five categories: Older Readers, Younger Readers, Early Childhood, Picture Book and the Eve Pownall Award for Information Books. Year is the award year (short list and winners announced that year). Levels: Winner, Honor (CBCA Honour Books), Shortlist (rest of the short list); each book appears once per category-year at its highest level. Notables and the Crichton/New Illustrator award are left out. All years read from Wayback Machine snapshots of cbca.org.au short list and winners pages; sourceUrl is the original cbca.org.au URL. No fallback sources and no gaps. 2011 Picture Book has joint winners (Mirror, Hamlet). Short lists of 5, as printed: 2013 Eve Pownall, 2014 Younger Readers. Some years list one Honour book only (2006 Early Childhood, 2012 Eve Pownall). Title casing normalised where pages used all caps or sentence case. Picture Book authors list writer then illustrator (CBCA prints illustrator first). 2010 'M is for Mates' has no named author; credited to its publisher, the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Organization: Children's Book Council of Australia. Years are award years, which can differ from publication years. Official site (opens in a new tab)
