About the Pura Belpré Award

Medal (Winner) and Honor Books from ALSC's list of Pura Belpré winners, 1996 to present. Year is the announcement year ALSC uses. The award was biennial until 2008, so no 2007 award exists. Through 2020 there were two categories, Author (narrative) and Illustrator. From 2021 the Author award split into Children's Author and Young Adult Author; Illustrator continued as the Youth Illustrator award and stays one category here. A book honored in two categories appears once in each. Illustrator-category author fields name the writer, then the illustrator when different. No illustrator honors were given in 2013.

Organization: Association for Library Service to Children and REFORMA. Years are award years, which can differ from publication years. Official site (opens in a new tab)
