About the Barnes & Noble Book of the Year
Barnes & Noble booksellers vote for the Book of the Year, first awarded in 2019. Year is the year B&N dates the award, announced each November or December. Category Book of the Year holds the winner and the other finalists from B&N's finalist press release, so each year's count is the finalist count B&N printed. Extra honors named in the winner announcement are their own categories: Speculative Fiction Book Award (2022), Children's Book of the Year (2024, and two in 2025) and Gift Book of the Year (2024-2025); each of those books is also a Book of the Year finalist. The 2023 Author of the Year honored a person, not a book, and is skipped. The separate spring Children's & YA Book Awards and the Discover Prize are other programs and are not included. Sources are B&N press releases and, for the 2025 winners, the B&N blog. Mona's Eyes translator from the English edition.
